Based on 1,366 reviewsEl Famous Burrito is widely recognized for its authentic Mexican flavors, generous portions, and consistently fresh ingredients. Customers appreciate the fast and efficient service, noting that meals are prepared quickly without sacrificing quality. The restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere complemented by friendly staff, making it a popular choice for both casual dining and quick bites. Specialty items such as mole enchiladas and unique nachos receive particular praise, alongside traditional favorites like al pastor burritos and aguas frescas. However, one common limitation highlighted is the establishment’s cash-only payment policy, which requires patrons to plan accordingly. Overall, El Famous Burrito maintains a strong reputation for delivering satisfying, affordable Mexican comfort food with a reliable dining experience in Waukegan.
I’ve never really had an issue with the place. The only problem is they don’t accept debit or credit so you have to make sure you have cash other than that the food is delicious.
Great food and atmosphere, and friendly workers. Personally, I went with a al pastor burrito and an horchata, and the portion was enough to fill me. Keep in mind that refills are 1 for drink refills excluding fountain drinks.
Hungry for Mexican? This place does not play. You order, They are ON it. Food is ready super fast. Their nachos are also very unique as cut tortilla loaded with the toppings on each piece.
Mexican comfort food at great prices with lightning fast service. If everything wasn't fresh made you would think this was fast food. Yep. Got my meal before my mouth knew it was ready. This is a go to place for me and has been consistently good for as long as I know. Under 10 and now it is time for a nap. Just remember CASH ONLY
Good place to come for your mole fix, if you like mole enchiladas. Nice queso de Oaxaca on top. They have a couple of aguas frescas, too.
Best tacos ever! Good people and good service and best tacos ever. Fair prices and they been around a long time!
Ever since I got my dog, I’ve struggled when I get hungry while he’s with me in the car. Not every place has outdoor seating or a drive-thru, so this time I was specifically looking for a Mexican restaurant with a drive-thru— and I’m so glad I found this place! The food was delicious and generous. My favorite Mexican dishes are asada tacos and asada tostadas, but I’m usually picky about where I get them. This place did not disappoint. On top of that, the staff were amazing, they even gave my dog a treat! I’ll definitely be coming back.
My only issue is this is a cash only establishment. I've passed by this area for years to and from northwest Indiana and it never appeared on my food radar until yesterday since I was at a pub minutes away for the Bear Game. This steak burrito is a serious over a lb. Don't let the pics fool you. I am not big on flour tortillas, but you can't get tortillas this big. This flour tortillas was lightly grilled so it's a sturdy for support. So worth every peso I paid for it.
